Some frequently asked questions

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone is different and the response to Reflexology can be immediate or sometimes take longer than one appointment but often remarkable benefits can be seen after 3-5 sessions.

Regular treatments are best for the body properly beginning the self-healing process. Following your initial consultation, I'll suggest the number of Reflexology sessions I think we should undertake and a therapeutic programme. Packages with discounted prices are available.

What happens in a treatment?

I offer Facial, Cranial, Hand, Foot, Ear Reflexology and Ear seeding either in combination or stand alone. Treatment time includes a health consultation, preparation as well as your Reflexology treatment and aftercare advice.

Looking at your concerns and goals holistically, I will create a treatment plan that suits your unique needs. Designed to deliver long-term results, your customised treatment will promote a deep state of relaxation and wellbeing.

Does Reflexology hurt?

You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology is not meant to be painful and does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a therapist I will be aware of the status of your face, ears, head, hands and feet, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour. All these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your face, ears, hands and feet - require a bit more care and attention.

Can you diagnose my health problems?

Reflexologists cannot claim to diagnose or cure, but during a treatment we get 'feedback' as to which parts of the body are working well and which are not. Sometimes Reflexology will highlight a specific area which is struggling or working hard to maintain your wellbeing; if a particular reflex point shows this kind of reaction I'll discuss it with you at the end of the session. Reflexology treatments combine a profoundly restorative experience with real health benefits. My role is supporting my clients to create the right conditions for recovery.

Are there any contraindications?

Reflexology is a non-invasive and generally safe complementary health therapy. However, there are a few conditions where it would not be suitable: blood clotting issues such as an active DVT, severe cellulitis (a painful inflammation of the skin), phlebitis (inflammation of a vein), areas of infections, contagious or notifiable disease (e.g. shingles, measles). Each client and their condition needs to be assessed individually. This is why the first session starts with a consultation. A full medical history is required to assess your general health and create a tailor-made treatment plan. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact me.

What degree did you earn?

I hold the prestigious Level 5 Diploma in Practitioner Reflexology, the highest level of training in the UK. The qualification framework sector that this level is assigned to is 'Nursing, Subjects and Vocations Allied to Medicine' and is therefore recognised by the NHS, the UK government and private healthcare insurance companies. I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists and my specialist knowledge includes Hand, Foot, Cranial, Facial, Auricular Reflexology and Ear seeding, Reflexology for Cancer and Palliative care, Reflexology for Fertility, Pregnancy and Maternity, Sleep disorders and Stress management.

Is Reflexology the same as massage?

No, Reflexology and massage are not the same and, in fact, defining Reflexology as a form of massage is incorrect and misleading.

Massage focuses on relieving muscles tension, whilst Reflexology uses a holistic approach to health. The principle behind Reflexology is that the therapeutic stimulation of precise points on our ears, head, face, hands and feet encourages physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Also, Reflexology should not be confused with podiatry which specialises on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders affecting the foot, ankle and lower limb.

What is the "healing crisis"?

Reflexology is a holistic therapy aiming to bring balance on all levels; especially at the beginning stages, the body's own natural healing processes may cause a "healing response" consisting in various physical, mental or emotional symptoms. Anyone is wonderfully unique and will react in the way of clearing that is most appropriate and beneficial for them. Following each treatment, your mind-body system tries to find and relieve the root cause of your imbalance and the emotions surrounding it; this may cause you to feel a bit worse before feeling better. The "healing crisis" is temporary and a natural progression through your personal healing journey.

Can you provide an invoice for my healthcare cash plan?

Yes, following your session I can issue a receipt stating my AoR membership number, my practice info, your personal details, date of treatment, what treatment you have had and the amount paid.

Bupa, Health Shield, UK Healthcare, Paycare, Medicash, BHSF and many other health insurance providers cover Reflexology when performed by a qualified AoR member, who I am.

Always check your individual policy first, as the same company may offer very different levels of cover.

What does gentle Reflexology mean?

A gentle approach to Reflexology involves a light and rhythmic pressure to various reflex points, rather than a firm pressure.

As a result of health-related reasons or just a personal inclination, everybody endures discomfort and pain differently and Reflexology doesn't need to be painful in order to be effective.

A gentle touch promotes a deeper state of relaxation, encouraging the body's natural healing processes without force. Unlike a forceful manipulation, a soothing stimulation emphasizes a mindful and connected touch working with the body's natural responses.

What are the benefits of combining different Reflexology modalities?

The synergy of different Reflexology modalities enhances the therapeutic outcome, producing faster and greater results, that last longer.

Reflexology is a powerful therapy in itself and when more Reflexology modalities are combined in the same session, the overall benefits can be outstanding.

My exclusive Reflexology Menu includes a selection of signature treatments in which Cranial, Facial, Hand, Foot, Ear Reflexology and Ear seeding are expertly combined, to address different aspects of the body/mind, more effectively.

What is Ear seeding ?

Originating from the Traditional Chinese Medicine, ear seeding consists in the application of tiny studs attached to an adhesive sticker, that creates a precise compression of specific points around the ear; the ear is considered a microsystem reflecting the entire body, where over 200 points can be stimulated to encourage healing.

Ear seeds serve as mini acupressure devises able to balance hormones, boost immunity, alleviate pain, promote digestion, help with substance abuse, calm the mind, improving anxiety, focus and insomnia,

The application of 24-karat Gold ear seeds is included in many of my treatments or can be added for a little extra, to enhance and prolong the effect of the treatment.
